Workshops & Training

Workshops & Training

For college students, a workshop format works well as they can engage with each other and reinforce the new concepts and learning.

For staff, the best way to implement change is whole staff training with some built in sessions to follow up and trouble shoot. For this reason we prefer to do many twilight sessions rather than one whole day training but we are flexible in terms of delivery as we know time is of a premium for busy schools.

We can provide any tailor made programme but also have a number of training packages that are popular, they include:

  • Character Strength Training
  • Enhancing Motivation and the use of the Growth Mindset
  • Emotional Resilience, Academic Resilience and Grit
  • Understanding the teenage brain
  • Managing exam stress and revision techniques

See below for more details on each package.

Character Strength Training

This is based on the VIA strengths, often called the cornerstone of positive psychology and can be delivered to teachers as well as to adolescents. We are usually quite aware of our own weaknesses but find it much harder to describe our particular character strengths. Through these workshops, we do the strengths inventory, find out how to apply our higher and signature strengths more effectively and how to increase our lower strength use.

See more information in the Coaching section.

Enhancing Motivation and the use of the Growth Mindset

If we don’t believe we can change and improve with effort, motivation is not going to be high. Through these workshops/training sessions we explore what motivation is, how to enhance it and how to implement the Growth Mindset. This can also include a section on Multiple Intelligences which has been a somewhat neglected concept in the UK education system, but very influential in both the US and Australia.

Emotional Resilience, Academic Resilience and Grit

This is about understanding that our emotions underpin most of our behaviour, including learning and understanding that Emotional Intelligence is part of self-knowledge. Being aware of our negativity bias and understanding how anxiety and fear can be created and overcome is a hugely preventative measure which is part of developing emotional and academic resilience.

Understanding the teenage brain

Recent neuroscience research has confirmed that the teen brain has some specific requirements and characteristics that it is important to be mindful of.

Managing exam stress and revision techniques

Exams can be stressful for both students, teachers and parents. This workshop can be delivered as a one off for students, teachers or their parents. It includes emotional understanding as well as reframing techniques, revision techniques, support strategies and many techniques for managing anxiety in the ‘here and now’ that can be brought in to the exam hall.
